THE PERSON OF THE YEAR:THE STANDING MAN

       Hello!  I am a jury member of the committee choosing the person of the year.This year,I chose “The Standing Man(duran adam)”,because he attracted so many people’s attention with his action by standing for eight hours as if he had been frozen.Later,lots of people in Turkey gave support him for Gezi Park.Actually,in 2008, an action like this was made by three thousand people on Trocadero Square, in Paris to interrupt the routine of daily life and share this extraordinary moment.These people’s aim was to show that a public realm could be used enjoyably without breaking the laws.In 2013,the standing man put this action into practise again to support Gezi Park in Taksim Square fort he first time.His name was Erdem Gündüz who is a dancer and was thirty four years old.This action also was his longest and most effective performance.The police and people couldn’t understand what was happening.They were confused about whether this was a protest or only a simple hoax.However, when people understood that this was an action for supporting Gezi Park,they rushed into Taksim Square.After this action, he was spoken so much.He created a big effect and interest in Turkey.I think the events which happen in Gezi park was really sorrowful and the police's using too much violence was wrong.The standing man showed an interesting action which is not harmful, but anyway he was able to express his  reaction. I find him worthful  to be the man of the year due to these reasons.

REFLECTION TASK 2b

Rita Pierson:Every kid needs a champion

  I want to talk about this video.I watched this video with my friends in education class for the first time.As we can understand from the name of the video,it is about the teachers and their students.Rita Pierson expresses her ideas and some experiences during her teaching life in this video.I find her opinions interesting and impressive.She brings a broad and meaningful insight into the relationships between teachers and students.She says that students don’t learn from people who they don’t like,and she thinks teaching and learning should bring joy.In her opinion,every child needs a champion.In other words,they need a good teacher who will create huge effects on them.These effects may be in both their personality and physical and physical environment.For example,a teacher can teach students the necessity of being clean.It is an effect on their physical environment.However,if a teacher teaches them to be respectful,it is an effect on their personality.I totally agree with Rita Pierson.I think techers must always encourage their students.I believe the power of love.Teachers must show their students that they understand them and they must pay attention to them.If teachers make feel their caring for the students,they wiil come to class willingly.Also a teacher must always be honest to their students.For example,if they have personal issues and don’t feel well,they should explain this situation.In this way, students will be honest,too.I can say that this video tells us the value and importance of human relationships effectively.You must watch it!

                       TURKISH EDUCATION SYSTEM
        Hello all!I want to talk about Turkish education system which always undergoes lots of changes.I chose this topic to tell you because it has both personal and societal significance to me.I think as a teacher candidate I must be critical about education system.When we ask people whether they are content with the education in Turkey,the majority says that they aren't.In my opinion,one of he biggest problems of Turkish education system is inequality unfortunately.I can explain that inequality in this way:In Turkey, there are differences in educational opportunities from East to West.For example,in Western Anatolia there are more schools and teachers when compared to Eastern Anatolia.In addition,we see the rich people's children in best schools.They can enable their children to attend private tutoring while for the poor it is not the case exactly.On the other hand,looking at public expenditure on education,Turkey seems to be efficient,but adding private expenditures raises questions about the overall efficiency of Turkey's educational expenditures.For example,Turkey and Hungary devote similar total expenditures on education per student for secondary education -roughly 4000 dollars and yet 15-years-olds are nearly 2 school years behind their Hungarian counterparts in math skills.I think altough Turkey has improved itself significantly in the last few years,there are still much more to do especially in quality and equity.Our education system must be discussed frequently and all the inequalities must be eliminated.Higher levels of input to improve the quality of the education is necessary and opportunities must be available to every school,district and student.Then,our educational system will be more efficient.

108, born in 1978 and Alessandria is an Italien artist in the field of 
street art.He showed his street art to public with broad and 
interesting figures.He is one of the first artist who use numbers as name and signature .He began to work when he was a child on the streets of Alessandria using different names.He showed his great works on the streets of New York City,Milan,Berlin,London,Paris.His first works are the enigmatic blob-like yellow shapes.Later,he wanted to make visual chaos.His new works are labyrinths, dead trees,non figurative 3D objects and installations and he generally uses black and gloomy shapes.108 is one of the biggest and influential artists in graffiti abstractism.In the last few years,he attended to a lot of international exhibitions:Urban Edge Show in Milano, Segundo and Tercer Asalto in Zaragoza.He was invited to join Nomadaz in Los Angeles with Eltano, Dem,Microbo and other Artist to represent Europe in the USA 108's abstractions.When I first saw his works,I am impressed so much.I found them interesting and complicated.I think they are works  which are really hard and is requring talent.Principal Exhibits:

       Hello!! I'm Güler.I want to introduce myself to you .I was born in 1995, Tokat.I graduated from Turhal Mehmet Akif Primary School in 2008 and Zile IMKB Anatolian Teacher Training High School in 2013.My 18 years passed in Tokat.However,we moved to Sakarya last year.Sakarya is really an attractive city,but I miss my hometown, Tokat very much.All people who I love live in there.It is really difficult for me to get used to a new city.This year I got into university and now I live in Ankara.I study English Language Teaching in Middle East Technical University

.I can say that being a good teacher has been my dream since my childhood.I like spending time with children and teaching people.At the same time,learning a new language always attracts my attention.I like learning new vocabularies, reading and exploring a new language,so it is natural for me to choose this department.I hope,someday I will be a good teacher.I want to mention about my hobbies shortly.I like to reading books,listening to music ,spending time with my friends, riding a bicycle, walking alone from time to time and calming down in this way.Also,I like  cooking and tasting new foods.My favorite colour is dark blue and my things are generally dark blue.I also love writing.Actually, I am a quiet person ,but I have a big and deep world inside me.Someday I want to have a beautiful hause with a small garden and travel all around Turkey with my best friend,Arife.There are lots of cities which we ant to see in TurkeyWe will go to camp in the future.We also want to go to abroad together and found a charity for the poor.I hope, someday all our dreams will be real...

        

   Our beagle loves to hunt.When someone opens the back door for her,she barrels down porch steps into the yard and runs back and forth across the lawn in in ecstacsy.Her nose cruises the west grass for smells such as smells of cats, rabbit and other presences too subtle for  human detection.She sniffs and spins her tail in quick circles.After spinning clockwise,it spins counterclockwise.These two activities always occur  .They are sniffing and spinning and seem to propel her along.  

                                                            

    Although The Government Printing Office in Washington D.C is source of much useful information,few people know about it.It is the official publishing hause for federal government.The GPO publishes pampleths and books on a vast number of subjects ranging from the dangers of X-rays from home tv sets to the identification of mushrooms.About 27.000 publications are offered through the Superintendent of Documents, many of which are inexpensive.There is no charge at all for some.

John Jacob Astor, who reaped America's first fortune, was a German immigrant.A man, lowborn and uneducated made his initial money by trading Indian furs.So, Astor never learned to speak English properly.He carried on his business to the end in an accent which was rodelent of the Hamburg gutters.
